コンテナ船業界は需要の中長期的な停滞に備え、サービス体制の抜本的な見直しを進めつつある。ザ・アライアンスは東西基幹航路の見直しを発表し、欧州、中東および北米東岸航路でのサービス統合や北米航路でのサービス休止、さらに追加の欠便などを発表。他アライアンスも次々とサービス縮小を打ち出しており、関係者は今後、「荷動き減が本格化し、3割程度落ち込む可能性がある」と見てサービス体制でもそれに合わせた体制を取ろうとしている。頻繁な欠便でオペレーションは混乱しているものの、東西航路は需要減も手伝って物流自体に大きな影響は出ていない。ただマニラやダーバン、チッタゴンなど一部港湾ではスケジュール遅延が深刻化している。
The containership industry is undergoing a fundamental overhaul of its service structure in preparation for a medium- to long-term stagnation of demand. The Alliance announces a review of its east-west trunk route, consolidating services on Europe, the Middle East and the east coast of North America, suspending service on North American routes, and adding additional flights.
