国土交通省は2020年度事業の日本発シベリア鉄道(TSR)経由欧州向けシー＆レールの実証事業で、初のブロックトレイン(1編成借り上げ列車)によるパイロット輸送の結果を発表した。輸送コストや手続きの円滑さ、貨物の位置情報把握の面が課題となったものの、輸送リードタイムや輸送品質で良好な成果が得られたという。これらの結果を受け、パイロット事業への参加企業からは「コロナ禍により日欧間物流が不安定化している中で、第3の選択肢としてシベリア鉄道の利用検討の余地がある」との声があった。
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has announced the results of the first pilot transport using a block train (a single train that is rented out) in the FY2020 Sea & Rail demonstration project from Japan to Europe via the Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR). Although transportation costs, smoothness of procedures, and understanding of cargo location information were issues, good results were obtained in terms of transportation lead time and transportation quality. Based on these results, companies participating in the pilot project said, "With logistics between Japan and Europe becoming unstable due to the Corona disaster, there is room to consider using the Trans-Siberian Railway as a third option.
